Sonja Sheikh studied economics at the Justus-Liebig University Gießen in Germany where she also worked as scientific tutor at the Institute for Statistics and Econometrics. In 1999 she graduated with a phd in economic theory and policy from the University of Economics and Business Administration, Vienna. From 1997 to 2004 she worked as a researcher at the Austrian Institute for SME Research and since 2004 as deputy director of the Institute. Since 1997 she has been responsible for the business area "evaluations" as well as studies and analyses in the field of "innovation and technology". Sonja Sheikh is specialised in the evaluations of projects, programmes and institutions in the area of research, technology and innovation policies and is involved in the further development of evaluation methods. Sonja Sheikh is former member of the Board of the Platform Research & Technology Policy Evaluation (platform fteval) in Austria, speaker of the working group "Research, Technology and Innovation Policy" of the German Evaluation Society (DeGEval) as well as member of the European Evaluation Society (EES). She holds regular trainings in the field of evaluation for different stakeholders of RTI policy and is juror for several support measures and prizes in the field of RTDI in Austria.
