Sascha Ruhland graduated from Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena in 2004, having studied political science and communication science with a focus on policy analysis, national and regional systems of innovation, research, technology and innovation policies, governance, cultures of innovation as well as political communication and media effects. From 2005 to 2008 he worked as a researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) in Karlsruhe, Germany. Since 2008, Sascha Ruhland has been working at the Austrian Institute for SME Research as a researcher and since 2010 as a senior researcher/project manager in the departments "evaluation" and "innovation/technology". He specialises in analysing the governance of regional, national and international innovation systems, innovations in small and medium-sized enterprises, clusters, research and innovation in high technologies (e.g. ICT, biotechnology, nanotechnology) as well as evaluations of processes, programmes and institutions in the area of research, technology and innovation policies.
