SMEs provide a large proportion of Austria's and Europe's jobs. At the same time, people are the key to SMEs' competitiveness. However, internationalisation as well as teachnological and demographical change is altering supply and demand on the labour market in Quantitative and qualitiative terms. Against this background, making available an adequate workforce for businesses and safeguarding full labour market participation of all population groups constitutes a pivotal challenge for policy makers.
The institute's research activities and policy evaluations related to the labour market are primarily focused on investigating issues around education and training, the mobility of the workforce, the integration of specific groups (women, migrants, persons with disabilities, youth etc.) and related concepts such as diversity management and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility).
