Economic development in the stationary retail sector, first half of 2019
The stable, positive economic development in the stationary retail sector in 2018 continued in the first half of 2019. In nominal terms, retail sales in the first half of 2018 rose by +1.0 % to around € 35.3 billion (gross, incl. VAT). The number of employed persons in the retail trade increased in the first 6 months of 2019 by +0.4 % to around 334,800 retail trade employees.
The monthly economic survey of the Austrian Institute for SME Research has been carried out on behalf of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber since 2000. The economic results are based on the monthly sales figures of approx. 4,500 retail stores from 12 sectors or sector groups. The food retail trade is included on the basis of Nielsen turnover barometer.
