Given the rapid changes in the world of work and careers, educational and career guidance has become more important than ever. At the same time, Austria has a wealth of players and services in this area. To gain a better understanding of the career and educational counseling landscape, the Public Employment Service Austria (AMS), one of the largest providers, commissioned Austrian Institute for SME Research  to conduct a comprehensive study in 2021.

The 2023 update to the 2021 study provides an overview of educational and career guidance services, online platforms, and training opportunities, as well as presenting current trends. The study examined actors, types of services, target groups, forms of financing, and legal framework conditions. A total of 69 providers and 72 services were identified and analyzed. The analysis was based on database and internet research supplemented by literature analyses and online surveys. Qualitative interviews were also conducted with stakeholders. Despite the well-developed advisory network in Austria, the study identified potential for optimization.
